Interest in sea kayaking has grown substantially over the years and outdoor enthusiasts have greater need to develop skills in safe paddling, basic seamanship, marine weather interpretation and knowledge of the ocean environment.

This course is an excellent opportunity to learn and apply safe leadership skills in the outdoor classroom of Clayoquot Sound. The program provides an intensive introduction to a wide spectrum of skills and leadership styles that form the foundation of an effective assistant sea kayak guide. This is a proactive, experiential course featuring a low student to instructor ratio. Our two instructor's backgrounds combine to create over 40 years of outdoor leadership and sea kayak guiding experience.

Leadership Course$1098 | Clayoquot Sound | Some of the topics covered in this comprehensive course include: Capsize recovery and incident response, equipment and clothing, instructing and guiding skills, judgment, leadership and group dynamics, navigation, advanced paddling skills, risk management, tides, currents and surf, as well as weather interpretation. The course is facilitated during six days of kayaking and camping in Clayoquot Sound. Food and kayaking equipment are included; we provide single and double kayaks, the group size is eight participants. A full-time cook is employed, thereby maximizing your learning opportunities. In cooperation with Evolution Guide School, we are pleased to offer this unique and challenging program. |
